Issue 01 — Online UI/UX School Cohort 09 · Opens 12 Sept

Design Products people remember.

Twelve weeks. Eight chapters. One portfolio that gets you hired. Mimo is an online design school built like a comic — you don't watch it, you're in it.

Why Mimo

ChapterZero

Most schools teach you the software. We teach you the judgement that decides whether a product is deleted or kept.

No passive watching. 01

Build, don't watch

Every session ends with a real artefact in your portfolio. Twelve sessions, twelve pieces of evidence.

“That radius is a lie.” 02

Critique that stings, kindly

Live crits every week from designers currently shipping at product companies. You'll learn to defend a decision — or drop it.

Systems > screens. 03

Leave with a system brain

Tokens, variants, states, naming. You'll stop decorating screens and start designing the rules that generate them.

MO is watching. 04

AI as a co-pilot

Direct the machine so it never directs you. Our assistant MO critiques at 3am, when your mentor is asleep.

The Learning Journey

Eight chapters. One arc.

01/ 08
Chapter 01Week 1

Become a designer

Before the tool, the eye. Learn to see hierarchy, rhythm and intention in everything you already use.

“Wait — I can see it now.”
Chapter 02Week 2

Learn by building

You ship something in week one. Not a moodboard — a working screen.

Chapter 03Weeks 3–4

Master Figma

Speed is a design skill. Auto-layout, variants, variables and muscle memory until the tool disappears.

1,400 keystrokes saved / week.
Chapter 04Weeks 5–6

Think like a product designer

Every pixel is an argument. Learn to reason about trade-offs, metrics and the people paying for the thing.

“Why this, not that?”
Chapter 05Week 7

Use AI

Direct the machine. Ten variants in a minute — and the taste to kill nine.

Chapter 06Weeks 8–9

Build a portfolio

Three case studies that cannot be ignored. Written, art-directed and defended.

Three, not thirty.
Chapter 07Weeks 10–11

Get hired

Interview like a partner, not an applicant. Portfolio review, take-home strategy, salary language.

Offer received.
Chapter 08Week 12 → ∞

Become a mentor

Teach it and you own it. Top graduates come back to run crits — paid.

End of arc

You started as a viewer. You leave as a maker.

Twelve weeks later, the portfolio is real, the crit reflex is trained, and the job conversations are different.

FAQ

Fair questions.

Still stuck? Write to hello@mimo.school — a human answers within a day.

I've never opened Figma. Too late?

No. Starter assumes zero. Roughly 40% of each cohort has never drawn a rectangle on purpose. What matters more is whether you'll finish the homework.

How much time per week?

6 hours for Starter, 8 for Intermediate, 10 for Advanced — two of those live. Sessions are recorded, but crits are not repeatable, so protect that slot.

Is this just AI generating my work?

The opposite. MO is a sparring partner, not a ghostwriter. Anything MO produces gets torn apart in crit like everything else. You'll leave better at judging output, which is the skill that survives.

Will I actually get hired?

71% of Advanced graduates were hired or freelancing full-time within six months. We can't promise an offer — we can promise your portfolio, interview answers and salary conversation will be unrecognisable.

What if I fall behind?

You can pause once and rejoin the next cohort free. Life happens; we'd rather you finish late than quit.

Do I need a portfolio to apply?

For Starter and Intermediate, no. For Advanced we'll ask to see two pieces of work — anything, including things you think are bad. We're reading the reasoning, not the polish.

Final Panel
